About Tanzania

Tanzania Is best known for its safaris, It has more land devoted to national parks and game reserves than any other wildlife destination and historically has been one of the most pro active nations in setting aside land for conservation. To the south lie remote reserves where wild dogs reside, buffalo graze and the rivers provide residence for hippos and crocodiles.

In addition, the country is fringed to the east by the warm waters of the Indian Ocean and the idyllic islands of Zanzibar and Pemba which means it is not only an excellent safari destination but ideal for a beach and safari combination holiday.

Tanzania's Safari regions can be broadly grouped into three areas;

The 'Northern Circuit' which encompasses the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, Grumeti, Manyara and Tarangire, as well as the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro. Tours to this region usually start and finish from Arusha or Kilimanjaro.

The 'Southern Circuit' which covers Africa's largest game reserve, the rugged Selous, as well as smaller parks such as Ruaha and Mikumi. These areas are less popular with overseas visitors, and as a consequence offer wonderful game viewing. These parks are closer to the coast and the capital of Dar es Salaam, making them ideal to combine with a stay on the coast.

Western Tanzania bordered to the west by Lake Tanganyika. There are a number of smaller Parks here, including Gombe. This area is home to large numbers of Chimpanzees, which is the main attraction for visitors.
