Kenya ![]() About KenyaAstride the equator lies Kenya whose very name is synonymous with the safari. Here dramatic game viewing includes the renowned migration during July and August of over a million wildebeest, zebra and gazelle. The Masai Mara National Reserve lying at the edge of the Great Rift Valley is perhaps the most visited of all the African reserves due to the density of game, variety of bird life and the open savannahs.
Amboseli National Park bordering Tanzania and in the shadow of Mount Kilimanjaro is famed for its huge herds of elephant and Lake Amboseli, a temporary lake, that floods during seasons of heavy rainfall. The area is home to a large number of Masai communities whose ancient traditions are still an integral part of their daily life.
Lake Nakuru, which means ‘dust or dusty place' in Masai language is famous for its huge flocks of flamingos and Meru National Park was the location of the film ‘Born Free'. Here open plains are interspersed with meandering rivers and dense vegetation that is home to a variety of game. Tsavo is one of Kenya's oldest National Parks where volcanic landscapes combine with scrub covered hills and Samburu has verdant riverine forests where some of the rarer species of giraffe and zebra live.
