Sand Rivers, Selous

Sand Rivers Selous has been a well loved hub for safari buffs for years, and is at the centre of a natural melting pot of very diverse habitats, from gorges to open plains, and woodlands to lakes. There is a squadron of some Tanzania`s most committed safari guides, and one of them will be on hand to take you out for adventures; a day on the river, a night sleeping out under the stars or simply fishing barefoot off a large rock.

Discerning travellers consider Sand Rivers to be one of the finest lodges on the continent, with its unique blend of timeless safari elegance combining with the rigours of a genuine bush adventure. The lodge is set on a rocky peninsula with magnificent views over a vast sweep of the Rufiji river, its exposed sandbanks home to hippo, crocodile and spectacular bird life.

Flycamping is a highly recommended part of any safari to Sand Rivers. Flycamps are shared and form part of a short walking safari. Clients sleep within spacious mosquito nets equipped with safari bedrolls with sheets & blankets. A dome tent is set behind for changing / storage of kit and as a retreat in case of rain. A hot bucket shower & longdrop look is set up behind the camp, which is serviced by a staff of 3-4, who provide full breakfast, light lunches and 3 course candlelit dinners. A limited bar is available with cold drinks and ice where practical.

ACCOMMODATION

The lodge comprises of 8 open fronted cottages built of stone and thatch built on raised wooden platforms with stunning river views. There is a lovely swimming pool under the shade of a large baobab tree.
