Ski Aspen

Aspen is one of the world’s finest skiing destinations.
A charming little mountain town in Colorado, it’s best known for its great skiing and celebrity visitors.

Set across four fantastic mountains, Aspen offers a variety of slopes and the legendary Colorado powder and snow.
Nothing like Europe!

Non skiers will be just as happy in Aspen, making the most of the shopping, beautiful views, amazing restaurant and bar scene, spas and, of course, the celeb-spotting.

Aspen, the most renowned of the four mountains, is accessible from the town’s gondolas, and is recommended for more accomplished skiers with mostly black and blue slopes.

Out of town, a short bus ride away, three other mountains await: Aspen Highlands, another for proficient skiers , Buttermilk, the best place for beginners and Snowmass, the biggest ski area with a great variety of slopes and great facilities for families including fab restaurants and the Tree House, a huge kids ski school and play centre.

And, if lugging your skis home is one of your worst nightmares… Fear not, the American have come up with the perfect solution: the ski valet! A brilliant concept where one drops off skis and have them meet you anywhere the next day!

Another huge bonus? The extravagant amount of space, and the lack of crowds.

Stop for a break at Sneaky’s, a great tavern in Snowmass serving good warming dishes like duck pot pie or simple pizzas. Across the square, try the hotspot ‘Junk’ with its crazy post modern chandeliers, or stop by ‘The Sweet Life’ for ice creams galore, plenty of candy and giant cupcakes.

For a little après ski, head to the Ajax Tavern right at the foot of the ski lifts at Aspen mountain, the truffle fries are legendary! In town, there are about a hundred different places to eat, from the basic all American Boogie’s Diner to the gorgeous Dish Aspen or the legendary Nobu.

Aspen’s mountains are a real outdoor lovers playground. If you don’t like downhill skiing you can try cross country skiing or snowboarding, snowshoeing or just hiking.

But don’t miss the views over the infamous Maroon Bells, the most photographed peaks in all of North America that stretch up 14,000 feet high.

Off the mountains, visit the Aspen Art museum or its many galleries or shop til you drop in the designer stores like Prada or Gucci, or ski specialists Helly Hansen, North Face and Montcler.

And, if you want to see really beautiful scenery take a drive along the I 70 or the 285 towards Denver. On a sunny day, the route is absolutely breath-taking, a series of stunning vistas that stretch forever, USA style.

Hotel or Self Catering?
If you are visiting with your family, or want a little independence book a ‘condo’ or self catering flat.

Aspen has plenty of options available such as the centrally located Chateau Dumont, just at the foot of Aspen mountain. It comes with all the trimmings: kitchen, tvs and an open log fire. Just what you need after a day out on the snow!

If you prefer to check into a hotel, try the ultra hip Sky Hotel right next door with its heated pool, hot tub and very funky decor. There’s also a five star St Regis resort, the rather glamours Gant which is halfway between a condo and a hotel, and a host of others, including the new Viceroy located in Snowmass. Call us to ask for suggestions – there’s something for everyone!

When to go
The resort opens end of November and prices are best before Christmas, then things get crazy until after New Year’s eve.

By the second week in January, accommodation prices tend to drop, and the slopes are lovely and quiet. Visit end of January for the extreme ski and snowboard X-Games or anytime until early April when you can have both sunshine and snow. In summer, there’s fashion week, free concerts and even a food festival to keep you entertained.

Star status
Aspen counts many local celebrities such as Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell, Melanie Griffiths and Antonio Banderas or Jack Nicholson, as well as regulars like Heidi Klum, Jennifer Lopez, Catherine Zeta Jones, Jerry Seinfeld and one time Beatle Ringo Starr.
